The ability to communicate effectively is essential to living a healthy and happy life. In addition to conveying our need and desires, communication also reveals how we hold ourselves and perceive others. Therefore, it is important to understand how and why we assign these identities to fend off falsely labeling ourselves and others. According to Abraham Maslow we communicate to meet a rate of human need (Wood, 2010, p. 11). Maslow argued that our inescapably can be former in one of five ways: physical, safety, belonging, self-esteem, and self-actualization. To fulfill these take we start with are most basic physical of necessity before moving on to safety, belonging, and self-esteem.
