The Outsiders - summary

Ponyboy Curtis belongs to a lower-class grouping of Oklahoma youths who call themselves greasers because of their smarmy long hair. Walking seat from a film, Ponyboy is attacked by a group of Socs, the greasers rivals, who ar quality youths from the West Side of town. The Socs, terse for Socials, gang up on Ponyboy and threaten to slit his throat. A group of greasers comes and chases the bullies away, saving Ponyboy. Ponyboys rescuers accept Sodapop, a charming, handsome high-school dropout, and Darry, Ponyboys oldest company (Darry assumed responsibility for his comrades when their parents were killed in a car crash). The counterweight of the greasers who come to Ponyboys rescue are insurgent, a sensitive sixteen-year-old; trifle, a hardened street cowling with a long wicked record; Steve, Sodapops best hotshot; and Two-Bit, the oldest and funniest group member. The next night, Ponyboy and freedom differenceer go to a movie with squelch. They sit behind a pair of attractive Soc girls. chat up flirts with the girls obnoxiously.
