US and UK Political Systems Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

US and UK Political Systems - Assignment Example Realities are difficult things; and whatever might be our desires, our tendencies or directs of our interests, they can't modify the condition of realities and evidence†-John Adams To begin with, there are three pieces of the UK; Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each having an exceptional status and neighborhood organization with a wide range of obligations anyway England which speaks to the 84% of the all out UK populace doesn't have any local government when contrasted with the US where each state has its own nearby government henceforth the British political framework doesn't have anything comparable to the bureaucratic arrangement of the US. Also, the most significant idea is that of partition of forces which unmistakably recognizes the US and UK government. In the US the constitution involves that three arms (the official, the governing body and the legal executive) must be totally and carefully autonomous and aloof from one another for example the president (leader of the official) can't be the individual from the Congress however in the UK it is the direct inverse. The British political framework is down to earth and adaptable since the three arms o f the legislature are effectively diffusible. The most striking differentiation between the two frameworks is the nonattendance of a composed constitution in the UK. While in the US like different countries of the world, the constitution makes a vital piece of the government while British political framework depends vigorously on the judgment of lawmakers, official, legal executive and law mediators. The Britain parliament has a bicameral structure which comprises of British House of Commons and the House of Lords; the last is the upper chamber with far less authority than the previous, it can't veto a choice passed by the British House of Commons. This two-house law plan and endorsement course of action is a result of a thousand years in length gradually advanced British Political framework. Presently when we contrast it and the US, we notice that the US legislative issues is ruled by two ideological groups; the fair and the Republicans, (what might be compared to these are the Labor and the Conservative gatherings).

Emma by Jane Austen Research Paper Example

Emma by Jane Austen Paper Cultural Affects of Love Emma, by Jane Austen, is an exemplary satire that occurred in the nineteenth-century close to London, England. Emma tells the story of a courageous woman endeavoring to be simply the relational arranger for everybody, and at last. Emma Woodhouse, the primary character, loses her dear companion and tutor, Miss Taylor, to Miss Taylor’s marriage, in which she becomes Mrs. Weston. Emma, looking for another appreciated buddy, goes over Harriet Smith. In spite of the fact that Harriet originates from a lower class in the public eye, Emma appreciates her excellence and willingly volunteers to improve Harriet so as to make her adequate to the high society. For example, Mr. Martin, a neighborhood rancher, appears to have experienced passionate feelings for Harriet, yet Emma proposes that she dismiss him since she trusts Harriet can possibly get a man who is high in the public eye. Harriet agrees, and Emma proceeds to suggest Mr. Elton, a minister, whom she accepts is an ideal counterpart for Harriet. However, later on Emma acknowledges Mr. Elton has in truth gone gaga for her, instead of Harriet, making her inquiry her matchmaking aptitudes. After a time of nonattendance from matchmaking, Mrs. Weston’s stepson, Frank Churchill, drops by the neighborhood and Emma succumbs to him. Harriet approaches Emma with the assertion that she has begun to look all starry eyed at another man, anyway Emma demands that Harriet hush up about the name due to Emma’s dread of destroying a potential friendship due to her absence of ability of matchmaking. Emma fears that Harriet is infatuated with Frank, so she disavows her own affections for him so as to promote Harriet’s chances at getting a man of higher class. When Harriet is educated regarding this, she appears to be unengaged, indicating she was in certainty not in adoration with Frank, yet rather succumbed to Mr. Gallant. When this data is revealed, Emma then acknowledges she is infatuated with Mr. Knightley too and he conveys similar affections for her. As one peruses the story, it is effectively reasoned that social positioning is the clear wellspring of the choices being made. Waldron says: Everybody aside from Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill is up to speed in a perplexing snare of social assumptions†¦ which makes an entertaining blend of misconception and screw up, with the goal that no one is seeing precisely what is there, or hearing precisely what is being said. (141) Throughout the story, one can see that economic wellbeing and class influence the affection for the characters, yet in addition, to a sense, decide their lives. Being viewed as high in the public arena, Emma Woodhouse wants to just be related with those of the privileged. This discloses her craving to change Harriet when she meets her since she sees the potential Harriet has despite the fact that she is of the lower class. The storyteller lets us know: Harriet Smith was the characteristic little girl of someone. Someone had put her, quite a long while back, at Mrs. Goddard’s school, and someone had of late raised her from the state of researcher to that of parlor boarder†¦ She was a pretty young lady, and her magnificence happened to be of a sort which Emma especially respected. She was short, stout, and reasonable, with a fine blossom, blue eyes, light hair, normal highlights, and a look of incredible pleasantness; and, before the finish of the night, Emma was as much satisfied with her habits as her individual, and very resolved to proceed with the associate. (22) Emma related with the lower class yet ensured that everybody knew there was a distinction among her and them. She would not like to destroy her notoriety by being seen with individuals underneath her. Miss Emma Woodhouse likes the sentiment of helping individuals who are lower than her; in this manner, that is the main time she blends in with the lower class. After Emma’s time went through with Harriet, Emma thinks she has brought Harriet up in the public arena. At the point when Mr. Robert Martin, a rancher, experiences passionate feelings for Harriet, he proposes. Emma doesn't care for this and is an exceptionally manipulative young lady. Eugene Goodheart states, â€Å"Emma is hardheaded, manipulative, an arranger or rather a misarranger of different people groups lives† (589). Emma, being the manipulative young lady she is, doesn’t legitimately advise Harriet to dismiss his proposition however indicates that she doesn’t need to acknowledge him since she could improve. Emma didn’t even truly know Mr. Martin. All she knew was that he was a rancher and ranchers were viewed as the low class, so she simply let her convictions about class positioning cow her sentiment to decrease Mr. Martin. Miss Woodhouse then offers with Harriet that on the off chance that she had acknowledged his proposition, at that point they could never again be companions since she would be down lower on the social class positioning. Emma says: Perfectly, flawlessly right, my dearest Harriet; you are doing exactly what you should. While you were at all in anticipation, I hushed up about my emotions, however since you are so totally chose, I have no dithering in supporting. Dear Harriet, I give yself delight of this. It would have lamented me to lose your associate, which more likely than not been the result of your wedding Mr. Martin. (52-53) After declining Mr. Martin’s proposition, Miss Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley get into a contention since Mr. Knightley sees that Harriet is really lower in class than Mr. Mar tin, while Emma opposes this idea. Mr. Knightley states, â€Å"Nonsense! Harriet Smith decline Robert Martin! Franticness, in the event that it is so; yet I trust you are mistaken† (60). Emma imagines that since she is a companion of Harriet, she can't in any way, shape or form be that low in class in light of the fact that Emma doesn’t partner with the lower class. When Harriet needs to restore a visit from Mr. Martin’s sister, Elizabeth, Emma advises her to make it brief since she can't stoop down to their level in class. This demonstration insults the Martins on the grounds that Harriet had remained with them for two or three months and they figure the least she can do is remain and talk. I concur with Julia Brown in that, â€Å"Her most noteworthy sin in the novel is slicing off Harriets warm connection to the Martins; as Lionel Trilling has stated, she is a reactionary, out to stop social mobility† (Brown). Emma feels that on the off chance that you are high in the public arena, at that point you have to connect with the higher classmen and in the event that you are lower, just partner with lower classmen. Another occasion wherein class positioning rules is when Emma needs Harriet to wed Mr. Elton. She thinks he is infatuated with her due to all the little signals she takes note. Earthy colored composes, â€Å"As consistently in Jane Austen, the littlest detail of conduct can legitimize the most authoritative judgment† (Brown). For instance, Emma is painting a picture of Harriet and Mr. Elton watches her the entire time and offers to go get it encircled in London when she is finished. Goodheart thinks: Emma disregards both the sensitive disaffinity and the social separation between themâ€and all the more intolerably she misjudges the wants of Mr. Elton. He is a vicar from a decent family with social aspirations; Harriet†¦ completely in thrall to Emmas matchmaking maneuvers. (589-590) Mr. Elton doesn’t need to wed Harriet in light of the fact that she is low in the public eye and he doesn’t need to corrupt himself by wedding her. Mr. Elton discloses to Emma: Miss Smith! I never thought of Miss Smith in the entire course of my reality; never paid her any considerations, yet as your companion; never minded whether she were in any condition, yet as your companion. On the off chance that she has liked something else, her own desires have deluded her, and I am exceptionally heartbroken, incredibly sorry†¦ Oh, Miss Woodhouse, who can consider Miss Smith when Miss Woodhouse is close? I have just idea of you†¦ Everything that I have said or done, for a long time past, has been with the sole perspective on denoting my veneration of yourself. (132) When Emma discovers that Mr. Elton adores her and not Harriet, she accepts that Mr. Elton just loves her since he feels that she can help raise him in the public arena: â€Å"She [Emma] barely cared about his connection, and was offended by his expectations. He needed to wed well and, having the presumption to raise his eyes to her, professed to be infatuated; yet she was consummately simple with regards to his not enduring any mistake that need be minded for† (136). When Emma understands this, she is upset. She doesn't see this, however she is doing precisely the same thing. Her class positioning status consistently drives her into her choice or practices. Afterward, Emma recovers data that Mr. Elton had hitched a lady that increased his general public positioning. He wedded Miss Augusta Hawkins. She is viewed as an opportunist; somebody who has cash and riches, however not so much the stuff to be viewed as high in the public arena. She thinks cash alone makes you higher positioned, which bothers Emma. We likewise observe later on in the book how Emma thinks about The Coles as opportunists as well. They have as of late become wealthier and are attempting to act like they are high-class individuals since they have more cash. Emma doesn’t like this by any stretch of the imagination. To Emma, everybody winds up miserable, baffled, and desolate when they attempt to exceed expectations their social class positioning. Later on in Emma, after Miss Woodhouse abandons attempting to locate the ideal counterpart for Harriet, she discovers that Harriet is presently keen on Mr. Knightley: â€Å"I never ought to have dared to consider it from the start, however for you. You instructed me to watch him cautiously, and let his conduct be the standard of mineâ€and so I have. In any case, presently I appear to feel that I may merit him;

LEB2 - Essay Example In any case, outside firms that sorted out under the laws of a state other than Alabama were illegal from also arranging its assessment base. These incongruities lead to the Reynolds Metal Company to sue the Alabama charge specialists. Reynolds Metal and other looked to be discounted for charges paid to Alabama on the grounds the state oppressed outside organizations under the Commerce and Equal Protection Clauses. The Alabama Supreme Court dismissed Reynolds’s guarantee, refering to extra weights on outside business counterbalance the weights set upon local organizations. An Alabama trail court affirmed the establishment expense to be unfair, however excused their cases refering to the point of reference of the Reynolds case. The U.S. Preeminent Court found the state’s establishment charges against outside firms to be prejudicial. Further, the U.S. Incomparable Court finished up Alabama neglected to legitimize its absence of assessment arranging capacity for remote fir ms when contrasted with the weights put upon local firms. Limitations on the right to speak freely of discourse On the 200th commemoration of the confirmation of the Bill of Rights (December 15, 1991), the American Bar Association gathered information. An insignificant 33% of those surveyed effectively recognized the bill of rights. (The New York Times) after 10 years, competing senatorial up-and-comers flubbed the distinguishing proof of components including the First Amendment. (Johnson) considering these unfortunate intellectual failings, the normal American can relate to the idea of â€Å"Freedom of Speech.† However, these equivalent failings in like manner established instruction clarify that couple of know about the presence of exemptions to the right to speak freely of discourse. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states to some degree that â€Å"Congress will make no law †¦ shortening the opportunity of speech†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Contrary to prevalent thinki ng, this doesn't give the privilege to the individual American to state what he/she needs, when he/she needs, how he/she needs to. While the right to speak freely of discourse exists, it is furnished to the individuals with limitations, conditions, and exceptions. The exclusion of profanity is one of a kind in that the Supreme Court has denied First Amendment securities to foulness regardless of whether it is, or isn't hurtful to other people. It has been dictated by the Supreme Court that vulgarity â€Å"was outside the security planned for speech† when the First Amendment was embraced. (ROTH v. US, 354 U.S. 476 (1957) ) This decision has basically prohibited foulness in light of a legitimate concern for social request and ethical quality. Note that indecency and sex entertainment are not one in the equivalent. As most sex entertainment isn't legitimately vulgar, sex entertainment appreciates First Amendment insurances because of the reality it doesn't need to pass all compo nents of the Miller Test. (Mill operator v. California, 413 U.S. 15, 27 (1973)). One could contend that the Supreme Court has set some significant points of reference in the limitations of the right to speak freely of discourse, yet the limitations of discourse are unmistakably all the more affecting well before the Supreme or some other court hears the case. The Supreme Court has made it understood workers of the legislature reserve the privilege to free discourse when tending to issues of open concern. The Supreme Court has likewise decided it sacred for the state to both suspend without pay and fire representatives under the appearance of proficiency of administration when the worker is offering bogus expressions against others in government. Comparison of the Treatment of Childhood in Shadowboxing and In the Skin of a Lion - Literature Essay Samples

Shadowboxing, a series of short stories by Tony Birch follows the life of Michael Burn as he grows up in the inner suburbs of Melbourne in the 1960s. Michael Ondaatjes novel In the Skin of a Lion narrates the life of Canadian Patrick Lewis throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. While the majority of Ondaatje’s novel focuses on Patrick’s adult life, the first chapter â€Å"Little Seeds† recounts his childhood in rural Canada. Both texts focus on the observant nature of children and the keenness with which they see and feel the events and people around them. Both works examine the ways in which events and people experienced during childhood can affect a child, and the lasting impact these factors can have on an individual. Birch depicts childhood as a time in which certain details are both keenly noticed and keenly remembered. Although young, in the chapter â€Å"The Butcher’s Wife†, Michael shows himself to be highly aware of the violence around him. He says â€Å"I caught only a glimpse of [the butcher’s wife’s] face as we passed each other, but I noticed [her cuts and bruises] immediately† (Birch 41). Furthermore, when describing the â€Å"heavy foundation of powder† (41) this woman uses to cover the bruises caused by her husband, Michael comments â€Å"it was probably the same one mum used† (41), showing that he is aware of the abusive situation at home. In fact, the profound and vivid memory of the traumatic events that take place in Michael’s home during his childhood can be seen when he describes the night his father physically abused his mother during her fourth pregnancy, after which â€Å"the baby was gone† (43). Michael says â€Å"I have not forgotten running into the kitchen, with Katie†¦and seeing her pinned to the floor bene ath him† (42). Ondaatje also emphasizes the ability of children to notice things, through the observant Patrick Lewis, during his isolated childhood living with his emotionally distant father. The first two lines of In the Skin of a Lion depict Patrick as an outside spectator: â€Å"the boy sees the men walk past the farmhouse†¦he stands at the bedroom window and watches† (Ondaatje 7). As he spends a lot of time alone, he becomes an observant, non-judgmental spectator. When watching the loggers outside his window, the boy is fascinated by them and â€Å"witnesses this procession and even dreams about it† (8). Furthermore, Patrick also seems very aware of the intricate workings of human relationships, noticing that the loggers must give way to the farmer because they do not â€Å"own this land, as the owner of the cows does† (7). Importantly, Patrick does not seem to judge the happenings which he notices, giving no opinion on the fact that the foreigne rs are seen as lesser than the farmer. Additionally, Patrick does not seek to be associated with â€Å"the men†, portraying himself as an outside observer. Patrick’s father is described, presumably from Patrick’s observant perspective, as someone who is â€Å"withdrawn from the world around him† (15), and who often behaves â€Å"as if flesh and blood did not exist† (15). The use of the phrase â€Å"flesh and blood† (15) draws attention the family connection between Hazen and Patrick, suggesting that, as Hazen’s â€Å"flesh and blood† (15), Hazen may treat Patrick as though he â€Å"did not exist†. This draws attention to how potentially upsetting and problematic it may be for Patrick to have a father who is so withdrawn (15). Consequently, this reluctance to interact with others could most likely stem from having a silent, distant father, who did not seem very interested in interacting with him, suggesting the importance of the observations that individuals make as children. In Shadowboxing, Birch suggests the lasting impact that the people and situations which children observe around them can have on these individuals as they grow up. However, rather than simply copying what they observe the adults around them doing, Birch focuses on the way children observe the actions of parent figures, observe the consequences, and often choose opposite responses to their parents. Consequently, in Michael’s later life we see that he has made seemingly conscious decisions to be different from his violent and abusive father. During his childhood, there are many times that his father actively tries to forget the past. After Michael’s younger sister, May died, Michael’s mother â€Å"tried to talk to [Michael’s father] about May several times, but he either responded with silence, or swore and yelled at her uncontrollably† (Birch, 7) eventually â€Å"he would not have [May’s] name spoken in the house† (9). Michael sees the grief that repressing the past causes his mother â€Å"she was desperate†(7) to talk about May. Years later when they are living at the commission flats, his younger sister Katie, asks him â€Å"Michael, can you take me down by our old house, and the old street? Show me where it all used to be†¦ You think you’d remember?† and we can see his conscious decision to be different from his father when he replies â€Å"Of course I can, Katie. That’s what I’m here for. That’s my job – to remember† (104). Consequently, while Birch depicts childhood as an important and formative time, he also suggests that it is not the situation of one’s childhood that defines the person, but the choices that that person makes, using what they have observed in their childhood. In the Skin of the Lion focuses on the impact of childhood, while also acknowledging the ability of events in adulthood to alter the traits acquired in childhood. In keeping with the personality formed in his in childhood, Patrick takes with him to the city, a non-judgmental, observant, outsider attitude. In one of his earlier conversations with Alice, he disagrees with her passionate allegiance to her political cause which was, as she phrased it, to â€Å"name the enemy [the rich] and destroy their power† (130 Ondaatje). His reluctance to become overly involved and his non-judgmental nature can be seen in his reply that rather than violence, one should â€Å"teach him, make him aware†(128). However, when Alice is accidentally killed by a detonator in her bag, Patrick attempts to avenge her death by pursuing her cause, suggesting that this event has awakened in him the ability to harshly judge others, to the point of revenge. Consequently, Ondaatje depicts childhood as a background that affects us, and will always have some influence, but emphasizes the way later events can equally change these predetermined attitudes. Both Shadowboxing and In the Skin of a Lion examine the time of childhood and its lasting impact upon the individual. Both texts emphasise the ability of children to notice both small and large details and feel and remember these things keenly. However, while Shadowboxing focuses on childhood as a time that stays with you forever, emphasizing the conscious way it can affect a person’s decisions, In the Skin of a Lion has a slightly different focus. Ondaatje seems to contend that while ones childhood can have a strong effect on an individual, and shape much of one’s character, a person can still be changed later on, by stronger influences than those experienced in childhood.

Factors of Diversity That Affect Conflict (Case Study Sample) Content: Name InstructorCourseDateFactors of Diversity That Affect Conflict Diversity is the state or fact that very different things or individuals exist at the same place. Potential conflict may arise as a result of differences that make each individual unique. Diversity in age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, race and other personal attributes can lead to costly and divisive conflict in a business environment. However, conflict in the workplace is not always seen as a bad thing; healthy conflict is essential in exchanging diverse opinions and ideas. As such, this paper will examine these factors in details.Whenever individuals from different backgrounds work together, conflict has a high chance of occurring. It is the unhealthy conflict in the business environment that wastes energy and time, impedes productivity and destroys relationships. It also creates an environment that harbors personal and political attacks. Individuals have their prejudices and biases about o ther ethnic groups and races. They often keep their perspectives to themselves but sometimes reveal them through their conducts and words. Some jokes at the workplace also come across as wrong or offensive. Some business institutions have training on diversity that assist in addressing such behaviors and situations. It is however very important to note that prejudices are observed in all directions. Minority groups also have stereotypes and biases of their own, and sometimes are against other minorities (Odyssey). In the recent past, workplaces have become diverse at an increasing rate; immigrants, minorities and women entering the business environment are the primary contributors. The greater the diversity in the workplace, the higher the chance of conflict and misunderstanding; malicious intent does not have to be present for a conflict to arise. Employees conclude on the aptitudes and intentions of other individuals without trying to clarify them. Diverse experiences can affect how an action is interpreted by different people. A diverse workplace sets forth the stage for conflict, tension, mistrust and misunderstanding. Those in conflict must engage and participate actively in diffusing tension and moving towards resolution. Conflicts related to diversity in the workplace remain among the most volatile and confusing dynamics. Managers prefer not to deal with these types of conflict because they consume a lot of time that should be used in increasing the productivity of the business. A recently published Washington Business Journal reported that about 25 40% of a typical managers time is spent tackling conflicts in the work environment (Feigenbaum). The world we live in is neither equitable nor is it free from bias; there is imbalance of power and stereotypes dominate intentionally or unintentionally. Individuals are fond of identifying others as one of them or one of us. The workplace brings together individuals with different views of life, these life v iews are deep rooted in group and personal identity. Experiences with injustice, unfair treatment, insult and disrespect partly depend on an individuals immigration status, education, economic power, religion, gender and race among other factors. Discrimination in the workplace is condemned; however, it appears in indirect and confusing attitudes and beliefs about pace of change, advantage or worthiness. The irony is that one of the biggest challenges that face diversity is also of great value to a business environment; that is diversity of thought and experience. (Woods) The most common conflicts that arise in a work environment due to diversity include; personality styles, lack of information, general styles, work environment that is competitive, ego, biases or disrespectful behaviors, business etiquette, leadership or management style, role ambiguity and communication styles among others. The work environment brings together different persons, some are laid back while others are rigid in their way of thinking, and some tend to have a reputation for causing conflict. Among these different individuals, different personal traits also come to play, these include; difference in skill sets, value system, experience, knowledge and low self-esteem. According to a survey carried out in the 1960s, personalities in individuals tend to set in by the age of seven. This survey was conducted on 2,400 children from different ethnic backgrounds. This shows that employees with clashing personality traits can only change their attitudes and behaviors for a short period of time but fail in the long run. Individuals will find themselves falling back to the behavior that is natural to them. (Odyssey) Where conflict is caused by diversity, the story behind it almost always has something to do with group identity as well as self-identity. Difficulty arises because of difference in views on respect and insult, fair and unfair, justice and injustice. In a business environment, unles s one party has behaved illegally or provided enough reason to be dismissed, conflict resolution does not aim at locking one party out, but to assist in resolving issues in a manner that reduces the risk for more conflict and makes the working environment more conducive for the future. The conflicting parties must see the need and appreciate the value of working together. It is not easy to deal with conflicts related to diversity as they are always emotionally charged. It involves taking the parties involved through unfamiliar territories by asking them to explore various and different views of their actions perceived through diverse insights. In order to be successful in such a conflict resolution exercise, the parties should not be defensive but rather strong. Perceptions on fairness that are deeply rooted are often challenged, providing for new insight on dynamics of power and inter group relations in existence. Business environments in America, for example, suffer most from co nflicts related to diversity. This is because both the individuals born in the United States and immigrant workers with diverse backgrounds meet at the same place. They all have different communication styles, senses of propriety, approaches, social styles and perspectives. Different cultures mix causing frustrations to both the managers and employees, especially when different social styles do not comply with the institutions culture or when difficulty arises in communication (Woods). Various cultures may differ and may have lesser or higher degrees of autonomy in the business environment as well as be more or less deferential to situations, this can be different to what the business institution requires. Conflict resolution in such instances calls for exchange...

This keeps relationships between distant family members more distant. If people didn’t talk or text as much as they do today, families would come visit one another and have holidays together more often. Another thing that reduces communication skills is that most families sit as far apart as different rooms in the house, each person on a different device. These are all examples that show families do not communicate well, and do not participate in family activities as a whole because they are addicted to their mobile devices . People and their families are trying to stop teens from constantly using technology, and to spend more time with their families. Embryonic Of Stem Cell Research Essay - 1576 Words

Embryonic Stem Cell Research Francois Rabelais, the famous Renaissance humanist, once said, â€Å"Science without conscience is the death of the soul† (Rabelais, Francois). Since the late 1960’s, this has been the stance for opponents of embryonic stem cell research. This is saying, if we are willing to take a fertilized embryo and kill it before it has even had time to develop, where is our conscience, our heart? We consider this form of stem cell research to be immoral and unethical. Scientists are looking for alternatives to this method of harvesting stem cells, similar to adult stem cell research, to provide a better, more humane approach to this breakthrough in science and medicinal therapy. Embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos; however, most embryonic stem cells are generated and fertilized through in-vitro fertilization in a laboratory setting, not within a woman’s reproductive system. Embryonic cell generation is by no means efficient, although once the stem cells are created, it is able to yield millions of embryonic stem cells from that one cell (â€Å"Stem Cell Basics†). Adult stem cells, commonly referred to as somatic stem cells, have a primary goal of repairing the tissues in the part of the body in which they are found. These cells are found in so many different tissues and organs, and are named by where they can be found, or by which tissues they help regenerate. A Refutation of an Argument by William J Bennett on...

REFUTATION OF ARGUMENT AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE In a remarkable article that appeared in the Washington Post, William J. Bennett argued that recognizing same-sex marriage would be detrimental to the concept of marriage and to the nation. The only thing more remarkable than the logical fallacies relied upon in the article was the fact that the author was the former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities and Secretary of Education in the Reagan administration and Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy in the George H. W. Bush administration. Bennett argues, rhetorically, that recognizing gay marriage would open the door to every other possible marriage, such as between two brothers who desire to marry and in situations where groups of individuals desire polygamous marriages. According to Bennett, if the basis of recognizing gay marriage is the notion of not denying a persons sexuality, all of those types of relationships are also entitled to legal recognition . Of course, that is a flawed argument because it presumes that proponents of gay marriage oppose any restriction on who may marry based on the single criteria of sexuality. In fact, the exact same argument was once used by opponents of interracial marriage. Proponents of gay marriage do not support incest, or polygamy, or bestiality; nor do they suggest that sexual desire is the only purpose of marriage or a justification for all marital choices. Bennett also suggests that gay marriageShow MoreRelatedLogical Reasoning189930 Words   |  760 Pagesstructure of arguments. David M. Place Of Mental Status Assessment In An Overall Client Assessment

Question: Discuss about the Place Of Mental Status Assessment In An Overall Client Assessment. Answer: In conclusion, a mental status assessment plays a very significant role in the management of clients with various medical conditions. This is especially because mental diseases are associated with other physical ailments. Loss of muscle mass for instance, may be associated with an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa The place of a mental status assessment in an overall client assessment cannot be over-emphasized regardless of the medical condition that is in question. The health of the mind is paramount to the overall health of the clients, their belief systems and ways of life. A mental status examination also aids in assessing a clients judgment and thought about their own health. By performing a mental status assessment, the medical professional is able to find avenues of client health that need attention. The medical professional can then give medical advice as needed to aid in improving the clients overall health through appropriate health education. In addition to representing a clients health state and creating avenues for improvement of the clients health state, it enables prompt diagnosis of psychiatric ailments such as depression. Depression has been a cause of many suicide cases. By undergoing a mental status examination, medical professionals can identify such conditions early and manage them hence saving the life of the patients(Sheila, 2011). In this regard, the overall health of the patient will be maintained in the long run. A mental status assessment also gives the examination to identify any disorders related to the client mood and thought processes that would interfere with activities of daily living. Mental disorders such as stress can hinder the activity of the immune system, cardiovascular, respiratory and even muscular systems. Early assessment through performing a mental status examination aids in avoiding such deleterious conditions from emanating and according sufficient management if they exist. A mental status assessment plays a very crucial role to the overall physiological process of the body. The processes that occur in the brain are associated with many processes in the body. A healthy brain is a healthy body, therefore, mental status assessments should be taken with utmost seriousness. References Brunner, L. S. Project Plan Evaluating the Energy Performance of the First Generatio

Question: Discuss about the Project Plan for Evaluating the Energy Performance of the First Generation? Answer: Introduction In the given proposal, the topic of green energy and indoor technologies for smart buildings has been chosen. In the modern scenario, it can be deduced that there are several renewal energy sources adds more value to the safety of energy among the several smart buildings. Climatic changes play a major part in the recent technologies of land and building. This is mainly because depletion of greenhouse gases and greenhouse emissions in the present context of business environment. There is an extreme danger for the future purpose of the planets. This can be of great essence for the greenhouse emissions of the purpose of the evaluation of effectiveness of the smart buildings. The term smart buildings reflect about those buildings which consist of reduction of costs and reduction of energy in an effective manner. The requirements of the given buildings are of great essence for the sustainability of the environment. It has been further inferred that all the given smart buildings have sever al form of advantages (Entchev et al. 2015). It can be also inferred that due to increase of temperature and climatic changes, the need for the smart buildings in the form of green energy and indoor technologies. This is at par with the requirements of the environment. This can be considered as the given area of the project. Relevance of the project- The project has several relevance values in terms of sustainability of the environment. It can be inferred that with the assessment of the given project the given technologies that are required for smart buildings can be interpreted through the given research proposal. In addition to this, it can be deduced that all the green house and indoor technologies can be interpreted and analyzed through the given analysis of the model. Apart from this, the importance of omissions of greenhouse gas with respect to the environment will be evaluated through the given proposal. In addition to this, it can also be inferred that the given research project can be based on the aspect of structural engineering of the research. However, it can be also inferred that this project can be considered as extremely relevant for all the given stakeholders of the environment (Moreno et al. 2013). Specific investigation of the given project- The required specific investigation of the project will deal with the implementation of the given greenhouse and updated indoor technologies with respect to evaluation of smart buildings. Another investigation of the given project will be to carry out on the tools and techniques of production of energy with the help of intelligence systems of the smart buildings. This can be due to the purpose of heating and cooling criteria of the given buildings. Apart from this, it can be deduced that the inclusion of indoor technologies are required to be discussed through the given research proposal. The importance of the omissions of the respective fossil fuels can be further evaluated through the given analysis of the renewal energy sources through heat. This will further add to the given indoor technologies that will add up the development of the smart buildings(Tung, 2012). In addition to this, the project will also evaluate the effectiveness of measurement of the given assumptions on the balance between the technologies and smart buildings. It can be also inferred that the testing is required to be done in a lab to judge the importance of carbon omissions and its effect on the indoor technologies and green house gases on smart buildings. The given research will of great essence for the purpose of the sustainability of the environment (Sibley and Sibley, 2013). Literature Review: Green energy refers to the renewable sources of energy that helps to enhance the safety of the suppliers of energy within the diversified sources of energy. Renewable energy enhances the technological implications within the indoor technology of smart building. Renewable energy has contributed upon the process of sustainable development of the business organization. Effective utilization of renewable energy or some green energy should be utilized by different business organizations for improving different indoor technologies of the smart building. However, Diamond (2011) argued that, with the effect of technological changes in the environment every business organization have taken the initiative to reduce the level of carbon emission within the work practices of the business organization. A smart building should supply 20% energies of fossil fuel and 80% sources from the renewable sources of energy. The utilization of renewable energy also helps to reduce the operation costs of the b usiness. In this regard, there are different journals those have also taken this particular idea of green building for the environment. This process can be called as intelligent building technologies . Utilization of renewable sources as well as green sources can be helpful for making effective intelligent building. However, Dixit et al. (2012) discussed that, a green building should be build on smart technologies. An intelligent smart building should be based upon telecommunications, office automation process, building management and different integrated systems. In this regard, most common themes are integrated design process (Green globe and LEED), costs of life cycle and sustainability, efficient energy, renewable and distributed energy and quality of indoor air. On the other hand, Li et al. (2011) argued that, smart buildings are very expensive than other types of building. Smart buildings are expensive and hard to design. However, the benefit of smart building infrastructure smart building has been resulted within few lower cost of life cycle. However, it can be stated that green building is very helpful for achieving sustainable development within the business practices of the organization. There are some misconceptions about the cost of green building and traditional building mechanisms. Green building costs more than any of the traditional building. Green building is consisted with the smart building techniques. By acquiring projects on green building, one can get effective financial benefits from these projects. These green projects have real benefit within social, economical and environmental aspects. Michigan is one of the most successful cities in order to develop green buildings as well as continue to expand different supports and resources for the activities of green building. These green buildings help to develop many green building projects. This project of green building helps to achieve sustainable development within the particular industry (Sharif et al. 2014). Michigan is one of the effective examples of making green building than other cities of the country. Different companies of public, private developers, educational institutions, government sectors etc have adopted the practice of making green building. This can be helpful for providing sustainable development within the particular industry. Different organizations have gathered benefits from the design and structure of green buildings. Green buildings also help to design effectively for the future development of the industry. As discussed by Mayer et al. (2012), there are different benefits of green development in the building or construction industry. The categories of benefits are involved with financial as well as economical and social activities of the particular sector. One of the most important benefits is involved within the practices of financial benefits. Green building helps to reduce the capital costs. On the other hand, Prum (2012) discussed the benefits of green development within the particular sector. Financial benefits: 1. Helps to reduce the costs of maintenance and operation 2. Helps to reduce the cost of capital 3. It also helps to reduce the liabilities and risks within financial sector Environmental benefits: 1. It helps to grow healthy environments 2. It helps to improve productivity 3. Green building has limited affect as well as influence on the natural environment Social benefits: 1. It helps to increase the environmental awareness among the people of the society 2. It provides strong networks within the society However, Rashid et al. (2012) discussed that, the demand of green building has enhanced within the society. Green development project has been increased within the society. Building industry accumulates data on the advantage of practices of green building project. The design of green project is not so difficult and complex. It has different impacts upon the society, environment and economic area of the business (Yudelson, 2012). The benefits of green building are extensive in nature. Benefits of green development have become widely known within the society. Green building is very effective and necessary for the sustainable growth of the particular industry. However, in this field one obstacle is also very important for this particular industry. The construction cost of green building is much higher than other traditional mode of building. User interface and other types of automation technique is very much necessary for making the green construction that is smart in nature. Therefore, green building is costly but very much effective for the environment, society and financial stability. Research aims, research questions and Sub goals of the research There is multiple numbers of aims that can be evaluated for the purpose of the research. These are as follows:- To investigate about the possible omissions of carbon dioxide and implications of renewal energy in environment To evaluate the effectiveness of the structure of smart buildings To analyze the indoor technologies required for development of smart building To give proper recommendations in case of improvement of structure of smart building through omission of green house gases These are the given research aims of the given research proposal. The experimental workplace of the given research proposal will be the research centre of renewal energy. This can be further evaluated through several renewal sources of energy in an effective manner. Research Questions What are the effects of carbon dioxide omissions and its implications on the renewal energy sources? What is the effectiveness of structure of smart buildings? What kind of indoor technologies that is required to develop smart buildings? What recommendations can be given for the improvement of smart buildings through indoor technologies? Sub-goals of the research There are several sub goals of the research that can be effectively evaluated. These goals are to minimize the possible effects and impact of carbon omissions for the sustainability of the business environment. In addition to this, the impact of several renewable energies for the purpose of environment is also required to be analyzed. In addition to this, the primary goals of the research project is to effectively analyze the structure of smart buildings and the requirement of updated indoor technologies will also be evaluated through the given research project. In addition to this, the secondary goals of the research project is to investigate the required process of green house gas omissions for the structural development of modern smart buildings with updated indoor technologies. Theoretical Content In order to have clear understanding of indoor technologies and green energy, the model of ecological modernization has been adopted. Ecological Modernization: According to Koebel et al. (2015), ecological modernization is considered as policy concept in relation of process for sustainability. This theory integrates and incorporates technological improvements and innovations by deeply focusing on issues related to economic, sociological and environmental. On the other hand, Tung (2012) pointed that under this theory, it is assumed that number of service sectors and industrial sector partially goes through process of modernization including ecologically-friendly consumption. Therefore, it ensures a construction of better building and that would last longer. Moreover, the buildings receive a high marks on sustainability and care for environment. Apart from that, Sibley and Sibley (2013) mentioned that the modernization process of constructing buildings consumes less energy or electricity. Moreover, the renewable energy sources can be effectively used that will further help in enhancing energy supplies safety. Furthermore, it is stated by More no, Zamora and Skarmeta (2013), through ecological modernization, the energetic costs of buildings can be reduced for supplying of cooling and heating. Therefore, it will help in enhancing the efficiency of the building and consumption of electricity will be less. Constructing building in sustainable way will lower down strain or damage on local infrastructure and also the productivity of the workers can increase. On the other hand, the green design would be effective in cutting emissions from ozone and would decrease HVAC costs. Therefore, sustainable construction can provide long term effects and would play a big hand in protecting environment (Entchev, Kang and Lee, 2015). On the other hand, the indoor technologies theory focuses on providing extensive support in smart buildings. The building owners can be able to keep track of the people, materials and resources so that construction work can be carried in expected file. Furthermore, the engaging high class technologies in buildings would help the workers to enhance their efficiency and design the building that are environment friendly and does not lead to high pressure on limited resources. Experimental Set-up For the purpose of gaining better result from the project then experimental workplace will be developed. The Economic Research Centre for Distribution Systems and Renewable Energy Sources has been focused for declining the energetic costs that is tied on buildings. This will help in providing effective solutions related to the use of renewable source and resources of energy for the purpose of smart buildings. On the other hand, through the system the percentage of emission released will be acknowledged in order to know the amount of damage caused to environment while constructing building. Furthermore, the experimental workstation will help in minimizing the operation costs and will provide economic return by renewable source in building construction (Dixit et al. 2012). It will also support in consuming less energy so that pressure from limited resources can be removed. Apart from that, practice of production of energy will be done through the experimental workstation so that effici ency of the smart building can be checked. Results, Outcome and Relevance The use of renewable source of energy for the construction of small building will be investigated. On the other her hand, the people involved in the project will be assessed that whether they are performing and using the resources in efficient manner or not. Therefore, the parameters will be set for each task so that work can be completed on time. On the other hand, the technologies that are used for the project plan will also be investigated. The cost related to acquirement of technology will be analyzed so that overall cost of the project (Prum, 2012). Using the green energy and indoor technologies will help in reducing operation costs and would secure the economic return that is relied on investments. Therefore, the variables can be easily applied on the buildings which will ensure long term effect of the buildings. Moreover, the building will use less electrical energy. Mon 12-10-09 Mon 12-10-09 Conclusion It can be concluded that preparing a project plan is not an easy task. It requires thorough research and understanding of the chosen topic. The chosen project area has been well investigated and identified which helped in structuring the rest of the study. The project on using indoor technology and green energy for smart buildings has been effective in providing the details about its benefit on the environment and economic. Moreover, it will ensure sustainable building approach among the builders. Therefore, it will motivate other building owners to be sustainable in constructing building and making most of the use of renewable energy. On the other hand, the study has focused on discussing literature review in context to existing or earlier studies. Therefore, it provided valuable information that could be used in the project plan. Apart from that, the study also comprised some limitations such as shortage of time in collecting more information and budget. However, the study was carr ied in proper way and due time. Apart from that, the gap in earlier studies has been well explained by the researcher so that project can be carried in appropriate manner. References Diamond, R. (2011). Marijuana as a Gateway Drug the Causal Fallacy Essay Example

Marijuana as a Gateway Drug: the Causal Fallacy Paper Marijuana as a Gateway Drug: The Causal Fallacy The marijuana plant, perhaps the most widely-used illicit drug in the world, was once demonized by authorities and the media. In the 1936 film Marijuana: Weed with Roots in Hell, director Dwain Esper portrayed teens smoking marijuana and then engaging in perceived evils such as nude bathing and unchaperoned partying, with one girl becoming pregnant. The film went on to further depict the characters becoming addicted to marijuana and committing serious crimes including a police shootout and kidnapping for ransom. These claims are based on the type of faulty casual analysis that has given rise to anti-marijuana myths that have endured over the years, but they are fortunately starting to abate. While the Western world has lightened up, some misconceptions persist, particularly those based on casual fallacy. An example of such a fallacy can be found in the argument that marijuana is a â€Å"gateway drug† which causes users to eventually progress to hard drugs, when that’s not actually the case. The correlation between marijuana and other illegal substances is not in dispute, nor is the chronology in that marijuana use typically precedes other drug use. Furthermore, studies also show that marijuana users are more likely to try hard drugs than non-users. But correlation and chronology doesn’t imply causation, and it’s causation that is at the crux of the â€Å"gateway drug† argument. The reason marijuana use typically occurs before other illicit drug is because it’s readily available and accessible, especially for youth. Instead of having to venture to a store and provide photo ID as a young teens would with liquor and tobacco, they might be able to buy marijuana without having to leave school property or even their own home. Acquiring it may involve only placing a quick phone call to a drug dealer and having it delivered like a pizza. The primary reason for this is marijuana’s illegality. By outlawing marijuana it’s driven to the black market where there is no age restriction or code of ethics. Furthermore, a marijuana dealer may also introduce customers to their harder product lines, or at least connect them with someone who can. Dealers tend to be more cautious of selling harder drugs since the penalties, if caught, are much stiffer. Once trust is gained through the sale of marijuana, they might be more comfortable progressing to more serious transactions. Because of this, the first experience people may have to illicit drugs is likely to be marijuana, putting it in the position where it appears to cause other drug use simply because of chronological order. The lack of objective evidence showing a casual link between marijuana and hard drugs was discussed in the scientific literature as early as 1999. In the book Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base, published by the US Institute of Medicine, researchers wrote that â€Å"because it is the most widely used illicit drug, marijuana is predictably the first illicit drug most people encounter† and that â€Å"not surprisingly, most users of other illicit drugs have used marijuana first† (Joy et al. 6). However, â€Å"there is no conclusive evidence that the drug effects of marijuana are causally linked to the subsequent abuse of other illicit drugs† (Joy et al. 6). Subsequent research has similarly been unable to establish casual links. While most hard drug users started with marijuana, and most hard drug users have used marijuana, it’s important to note that most marijuana users don’t actually use hard drugs. If marijuana caused hard drug use we would expect the rates of marijuana use to be consistent with the rates of hard drug use. The rate of marijuana use is nearly six-times higher than the five major types of hard drugs combined, according to Canadian government statistics. Health Canada’s 2010 â€Å"Canadian Alcohol and Drug Use Monitoring Surveyâ€Å" reported that 10. 7% of respondents 15 years of age or older admitted to using marijuana in the past year, while only 0. % used crack, 0. 5% used speed, 0. 7% used ecstasy, and 0. 7% used some type of illicit hallucinogen (excluding salvia). The total reported usage for these other drugs is 1. 8%, nearly one-sixth that of marijuana. Another factor is that marijuana users tend to be more prone to using hard drugs simply because they have t he personality traits conducive to substance abuse. These traits include the attitudes, feelings, responses, and behaviours that contribute to a person’s psychological makeup. In the 2002 article â€Å"Are Personality Traits Familial Risk Factors for Substance Use Disorders? researchers explain that â€Å"longitudinal studies have implicated personality characteristics as predisposing vulnerabilities for the subsequent development of substance-related disorders† (Swendsen et al. ). In this sense, marijuana and crack users have something in common; they are all willing to alter one’s mind to the chagrin of the law. Casual fallacies abound when we humans attempt to understand the world around us. It’s tempting to conclude that causation is established because there is a correlation or chronological order of events, but that’s not a logical approach. There are a multitude of factors to consider when establishing a causal link, and this is no exception. While marijuana is correlated with hard drugs, and marijuana use typically precedes hard drug use, it does not actually cause hard drug use. Like the other fallacies before it, the â€Å"gateway drug† fallacy is yet another marijuana myth that can hopefully be put to rest. Works Cited Canada. Custom Writing Services

Custom Writing ServicesMost of the time, when we talk about Private Placement Memorandum or simply PMM, it is associated with business loans. But many business owners prefer to use this strategy for the promotion of their business to attract new clients.Generally, the number of clients that will be attracted by a particular private placement memorandum depends on several factors. One of the main factors is the writing style of the writing firm that is hired by the company to write the PMM. The other important factors are the pitch and format of the content.The writing firm that is hired by the company to write the PMM should first present the copy written by the company to the clients. This way, the client gets an idea on the product and service offered by the company. This in turn helps the company to determine how successful they are in attracting the clients and can improve their marketing strategies.Copywriters or content writers who work for the company usually write the content based on the needs of the company. For example, a lot of information related to a particular product and services is provided in the copy. However, there might be times when the content becomes boring, heavy and not really helpful to the readers. This is where the content writer comes in.When it comes to the content of the copywriter, he or she needs to come up with an original and creative content that is targeted to the specific audience. In this case, a content writer might need to have in mind that the copy should be able to promote the product and services well and yet at the same time keep the reader's interest intact. To make sure that the client gets the results he or she wants, it is important to create a PMM that is original, informative and entertaining at the same time.Writing for a PMMis not easy and is more complicated than writing for a blog post. It requires a lot of research and creating good content. All content writers and copywriters should look for and consider the market they are writing for before going into a job.It is a good idea to look for copywriters who have many clients working for them. Another thing to keep in mind is that it is important to get the copy written by a professional. A copywriter or a content writer can do this job well, but it still depends on how good they are at this.It is a fact that writing for a PMM takes a lot of expertise and writing skills. It is not only that a writer must be able to provide interesting content, but he or she also has to be able to edit and proofread it properly. Because of the detailed nature of the writing, it is important that the client gets it right and the copywriter knows what he or she is doing.
